Series: The Kingdom of God; Transitions
Sun am 14 April 2013 – Kobus Swart
Phil. 3:20-21; (1 Cor.15:28); (Isa. 11:6-9); (Num. 14:21); (Eph. 4:11-13);
(John 8:32); (Matt. 6:10); (Rom. 8:19); (Matt. 24:37); (John 3:5); (Isa. 9:7);
(Matt. 18:3); (Matt. 10:8); (1 Cor. 4:20); (Josh. 5:9); (Acts 3:4)
Jesus says “You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). There is a requirement, “you shall know the truth and it will set you free”. Is the Word working for you? Or are you just looking for another revelation? This is the big danger we have in this season: God is taking the seals off the Book, new insights are coming all the time, apostolic graces are operating in many countries of the world and the danger is that we just collect principles and concepts that are new. The challenge is for us to allow the Word to transform our lives. We will all be tested on the Word we receive.
When you go through a transition, commit yourselves because the results are going to be glorious. It is going to be something you do not want to miss. “For ourcitizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself “(Phil. 3:20-21). Let this be written on the tablets of your heart: We are citizens of heaven colonizing earth. Take a new look at our function as citizens of heaven while on earth. The general perception among many Christians is that you get saved and hope you will stay saved until you die so you can get to heaven. We are here to colonise earth; we are not here to hang on until we are taken up into some cloud, somewhere in heaven. Jesus says, pray “Thy kingdom come and thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt. 6:10).The earth is the Lord’s.
With the incarnation of Jesus the whole concept of dualism was destroyed. In Jesus the Word became flesh and He came and dwelt among us; that which was spirit became flesh. Jesus in heaven while He was on earth. He will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of his (the resurrected Jesus) glory. “…all creation is in travail waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God” (Rom. 8:19). We are part of that travail. There is a kind of restlessness on this planet. In scientific circles they are trying to try to find out how everything came into being but they do not want to admit that there is a God through whom and in whom and from whom everything created.
So we are citizens from heaven on earth and we are here to colonise this earth. Ultimately God will fill all in all (1 Cor.15:28). God is going to fill every space. Nobody fully understands how He is going to do that, but I believe He will do a lot of it through His people. The glory of God will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea (Isa.11:6-9 & Num. 14:21). How do the waters cover the sea if the sea is all water? It means totally, completely, everything. This planet is in for a great future! Can you imagine the glory of God covering this whole planet? Let us be responsible stewards of what is revealed to us.
I do not know to what extent the Church has migrated from a slavery mentality to a kingdom mentality. A mentality is a paradigm, a mental attitude that determines what you do, what you think; it governs your thoughts, it is an environment in the mind. Look again at the transition of Israel from Egypt to the Promised Land. The problem with Israel is that when they left Egypt, in spite of all the miracles etc, the red sea parting, their unbelief kept them in “transition” for forty years! A generation of looking back, of complaining against Moses. We are on the journey from our “Egypt” (our unregenerate state) to living the overcomer’s life. When we were born again we started a journey towards the kingdom of God in its full expression. How long must that journey take? The Church has lost its credibility in the world; it is full of politics and turmoil, the truth of God’s Word is being challenged. The Church is becoming more and more accommodating of things that previous generations would not have touched. Jesus warned “as it was in the days of Noah so will it be in the days of the coming of the Son of man” (Matt. 24:37).
What is the salvation and the hope of the world? It is the manifestation of the Son in the sons of God – a victorious Church! We have a function; this is not the only point of focus; we need to embrace a kingdom mentality much quicker than we are. It starts by knowing who we are; we are born again; we have left the kingdom of darkness and have come into the kingdom of his beloved Son. We are kingdom citizens representing another Government.
How do we speed up this process? We have to learn how to think differently. Like a fish which cannot live outside of water, we as kingdom citizens should create a corporate environment which will help us to think as we should think. That is why Jesus said that unless you are born again you cannot see the kingdom; unless you are born of spirit and water you cannot enter the kingdom (John 3:5). Jesus helped the people around him to understand the kingdom. He kept saying that the kingdom has come, it is within you; it is here! If it was true then, it is truer today than ever before because the kingdom has an expansive nature (Isa. 9:7). Jesus says unless you become like little children you cannot enter the kingdom of God (Matt. 18:3). We need to practice the Word of God. He said “preach the kingdom, heal the sick, raise the dead” in the same sentence (Matt. 10:8). We need to demonstrate the kingdom because the kingdom is not in words but in power (1 Cor. 4:20). We need to create that mentality of knowing who we are, citizens of heaven colonising earth, declaring the Lordship of Jesus Christ on this planet.
Why did the sons of Israel have to be circumcised before entering into Canaan? They had to be circumcised to roll away the reproach of Egypt (Josh. 5:9). There was still a thinking that slowed them down; a journey that could have taken only eleven days took them forty years. It was that old slavery mindset. Why did Jesus say that you must be like a child to enter the kingdom of God? A child has no history of unanswered prayer nor defeatist memories. We have been conditioned by the negative. We need to be circumcised from that negative mindset that is sceptical, unbelieving, reluctant; not only regarding sickness, but also financial and other challenges.
In this transition we need to do something to expedite the process. Sometimes God brings you into a pressure zone to help you to break into a new realm of faith and expansion. Do not come to premature wrong conclusions in the transition. If you have vision and God has placed you here, this is the time to stand together, push, and bring that next realm into being. In a transition people can easily bump you over with wrong alternatives, wrong solutions, and by looking in the wrong direction.
I sense the travail. I am looking forwards to a whole fresh, new realm and level of existence with all the manifestations of the kingdom. Creation is waiting for someone to demonstrate that there is a God. The politicians have run out of answers. Somewhere the Church can tell the world, “Look at us” like the disciples did (Acts 3:4). You have the keys; embrace the present, do not be driven by the memories of the past, good or bad; do not become anxious about future challenges. The breakthrough into resurrection life is coming; let us live every moment to the full.
