In the last session, we looked at the Elijah company that God is busy forming and the desperate need for that, not just in our own country, but in the world. We need an Elijah company with the specific anointing that God had on Elijah. In the final verses of the Old Testament in Malachi 4, it says, Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse (Mal. 4:5-6). These are hard words to read and we will do well to dig in and get the true meaning and position ourselves before the Lord.

We saw how Jesus identified John the Baptist as the Elijah that was to come. John the Baptist came in the power and spirit of Elijah. Strangely John the Baptist did not perform the miraculous as Elijah did, which means there is a deeper function and deeper meaning to those verses than just doing the supernatural.

It was a powerful demonstration when the whole nation was summoned to Mount Carmel by Elijah. If you speak from that realm of authority by the commissioning of God Himself, things happen. The drought was broken (1 Kings 18:45).

The next chapter is a shocking chapter. After this amazing demonstration of spiritual authority, this mighty prophet of God heard that Jezebel threatened to kill him (1 Kings 19:1-3). This response shows you the spirit of Jezebel. He actually requested that he might die (1 Kings. 19:4). Three times God had to send an angel to feed him and then instructed him to go to Mount Horeb where God appeared to him and gave him instructions to anoint men like Elisha and Jehu. Not long after that, Elijah was taken into heaven and his mantle fell on the ground, but Elisha picked up the mantle and parted the Jordan and he walked in a double portion of Elijah’s anointing.

The end of Jezebel was quite messy. When they went to bury her, they found nothing more of her than the skull, the feet and the palms of her hands. (2 Kings 9:30-37).

Let us look again at John the Baptist, because he came in the spirit and power of Elijah. The first words that came out of the mouth of John the Baptist were, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matt. 3:2). He had the gospel of the kingdom on his heart. When John was getting ready to baptise Jesus in the Jordan River, he saw Jesus and had a revelation of who Jesus was (John 1:29-36). The function and commissioning of John the Baptist was to prepare the way of the Lord. At this point in John the Baptist’s ministry, the purpose for which he was sent was fulfilled. Two of his disciples turned away from him and followed Jesus (John 1:37). At this point John should have closed down his ministry and followed Jesus, because his ministry was fulfilled. But he did not, and later he was thrown into prison. Then he began to doubt his calling (Matt. 11:1-6). Later – at the request of Herodias, who was inspired by the spirit of Jezebel – he lost his head!

Jesus said John was greater than all the prophets before him, yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than John (Matt. 11:11). It is time for our eyes to open to our true identity. That means we must stop listening the whisperings of Jezebel.

John was the last of the Old Covenant prophets (Matt. 11:12). There is a ‘John the Baptist’ (=Elijah) Ministry in the earth. This time it is a corporate anointing. It is to prepare the way of the Lord, to bring the Body to Full Stature! The five-fold ministry is moving in that anointing to a great extent, but there comes a time that you have to become part of the next season, and not just prophesy about it. If not, movements that are pioneering movements in the earth, who fail to transition into the next level/season, will lose their ‘head’. When a prophetic/apostolic move of God becomes a movement of man, it fails to flesh out the next level and loses its governmental anointing – it loses its ‘head’. We have seen this already over the past decades. We cannot allow the John the Baptist history repeat itself. In order to prevent that from happening we have to deal with the spirit of Jezebel.

The meaning of the name ‘Jezebel’ means ‘Baal exalted’. It also indicated one who is unchaste and un-husbanded. She was married to King Ahab and as queen of Israel she immediately set up altars, shrines, temples, false gods and began to require of the people of Israel to worship these gods. She was the daughter of Ethbaal (=‘with Baal’). Ethbaal was a priest to the goddess Astarte, the goddess of sensual love and sex. From her childhood Jezebel was steeped in false religion and government. She grew up in an atmosphere of position, power and prestige. She drank deeply of all the arts of political cunning and intrigue.

Now let’s look at the church of Thyatira

The name Thyatira means ‘sweet perfume and sacrifice’ a perfume that sends forth its fragrance as a result of bruising, crushing and breaking. The church of Thyatira was the smallest of the seven churches, but it was sent the longest message of all seven. And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: … But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bond-servants astray so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. I gave her time to repent, and she does not want to repent of her immorality (Rev. 2:18-29).

The Old Testament is best understood when you read it through the eyes of the New Testament. The Old Testament contains types and shadows with a deeper meaning than the story itself. The woman Jezebel was crushed and buried in the Old Testament, but there she is again in the New Testament! It is a spiritual principle. Yes, the spirit of Jezebel can manifest through women today, but it is not a gender issue. The spirit of Jezebel can also operate through a man; it is a spirit. The spirit of Jezebel can come in hidden patterns and ways. Sadly today multitudes of God’s people have been seduced by an imitation anointing; that which looks like the real, but is not a true anointing. They use methods and patterns of previous revivals to activate an anointing in the present, but it is not real. They put together patterns without God’s presence. Like Moses in the wilderness when they ran out of water. God told Moses to hit the rock. When they ran out of water again, God told him to speak to the rock. Moses hit the rock and water came out, but because of his disobedience, he lost his entrance into the promised land. What worked before, he used again, but in imitation form. God was merciful and did not allow the people to go without water (Num. 20:8-13). Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness’ (Matt. 7:22-23). “But it worked!” But then “I never knew you.” This is not a heaven or hell issue. The Lord is saying, “I did not know you in intimacy of fellowship and vital union. I never knew you as a man knows a woman. You did all those works in My name; you did what you wanted to do, and you did it by My authority, but I had nothing to do with it. I never knew you as Adam knew his wife and gave birth to a son”. The religious soul can act independent of the Spirit and this is the spirit of Jezebel.

Jezebel represents the soul of man before it was born again; before it was transformed. The soul can do things that look very real and authentic but be disconnected from real relationship with the Lord. Let us be watchful! Jezebel may be operating in you. There is something about the soul and the spirit. Do not operate by the power of the soul.

Look at Adam and Eve in the garden, and see the types and shadows, Adam represents a type of the spirit; Eve a type of the soul. The Garden of Eden is a type of the body. Why did the serpent come to Eve and not speak to Adam. The main reason is that the serpent cannot speak to the spirit man. What must grow inside of us is the spirit man, not soul power. Eve, representing the soul, could have turned to Adam and asked his advice. She had a choice to either listen to the voice of the spirit or the voice of the serpent. She chose to listen to the voice of the serpent. It is the untransformed soul that represents the spirit of Jezebel.

May the Lord give us understanding and discernment when it comes to making choices in life. In the soul is where we find the mind, the desires, the will and the emotions. Many Christians make decisions based on emotions or desires of the soul, instead of listening to the spirit. That is why it says we should set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth (Col. 3:2). Can the soul reach that place? Yes! (3 John 1:2). There is nothing as good as a soul that is purified, saved, and free of the influence of Jezebel (2 Cor. 11:2-3). It was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman who was deceived fell into transgression (1 Tim. 2:14). Can you see the mystery? The serpent cannot deceive the ‘spiritual man’. Each of us here has a ‘spiritual man’ on the inside and we must nurture him and feed him on the living word of God (Heb. 4:12). The word of God is able to discern between soul and spirit. The serpent can only deceive that which is less than the spiritual man. The spirit of a man cannot be deceived, so the ‘woman’, or the soul, listens to the serpent and then tries to manipulate the spirit-man.

Be open to a living Word. Absorb the Word. Spend time with God in His Word and let Him bring a separation between spirit and soul. Let Him purify your desires and your motivations.

The woman, the soul, can rule over the flesh(Ahab), but she cannot rule over the spirit(Elijah)! The serpent seeks to make the soul the priestess and the queen over the flesh through carnal religious doctrines and activities. We need to be purified from our soulishness. Do not downgrade the soul, because the soul is part of you. The problem is here: the first man Adam became a living soul, but the last man Adam became a life-giving spirit (1 Cor. 15:45). To be truly born again brings you in alignment with the last Adam, who is a life-giving spirit.

The Lord has now called His elect to overcome the Jezebel spirit. Every son of God has to overcome the spirit of Jezebel. We are in ‘the great tribulation’; God is sifting, purifying and bringing us into alignment with the spirit man. May the Lord help us to get rid of the carnality of the soul influence. God has thrown Jezebel down from a high place in the life of all God’s elect. Jezebel can no longer have any influence over those called into sonship. She can no longer control, manipulate, deceive nor seduce the called-out of the Lord.
