One of the most interesting and complex aspects of Christianity is learning how to practically live out the will of our father in a meaningful way. Many have answered the call to follow Jesus with a resounding ‘Yes!’ but struggle to find relevant and meaningful ways of outwardly expressing their new found commitment. The Bible tells many stories of people who left all they had to follow Jesus and to live a life dedicated to Him, and in so doing they became known as Jesus’ disciples. So what does discipleship mean to us as Christians living in today’s world?

The subject of discipleship is profoundly unpacked and explained in The Cost of Discipleship, written by Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945). In it he addresses the core issues around the idea of discipleship, and why so many of us struggle to follow Jesus in our day to day lives. Bonhoeffer, who was a central figure in the Church struggle against the Nazi Regime in Germany during WWII, passionately writes about the true meaning of grace and its impact on our lives as disciples today.
