The first man, Adam, became a living soul. When Jesus – who was the LAST Adam – came, He became a Life-giving Spirit. This reality must manifest in every born-again believer’s life. In too many cases, however, the sense realm (soul) dominates the spirit-man in believers. When we allow the Word of God, which is sharper than any two-edged sword, to divide the soul and spirit in us, it will bring an end to the dominance of the soul upon the spirit-man in us. We must never forget that Satan will always try to offer “shortcuts” to our soul to be like God, as he did to Eve in the garden. Only when our spirit-man is free from the dominance of our soul, can our spirit and soul be re-integrated. Then, this Scripture will have a new meaning to us: May you prosper and be in good health, as your soul prospers…! (3 John 1:2).
