‘In Mark 2:1-12, we read about Jesus returning to Capernaum, where a large crowd gathers to hear Him preach. In an act of determined faith, four friends lower a paralyzed man through the roof to reach Jesus. Instead of healing him immediately, Jesus first forgives the man’s sins, sparking outrage among the religious leaders who see this as blasphemy—only God can forgive sins. Jesus, aware of their thoughts, then demonstrates His divine authority by also physically healing the man, proving that He has the power to forgive sins. The crowd is amazed, and they glorify God, recognizing that they have never seen anything like this before.
This passage highlights that although Jesus performed many miracles, His primary mission was not physical healing but the forgiveness of sins. The healing of the paralyzed man was a sign that pointed to Jesus’ identity as the Son of God. For believers today, the lesson is not about seeking physical healing but having an active faith that persists in prayer and trusts in Christ’s ultimate power over sin. While healing may or may not happen in this life, Jesus’ sacrifice has purchased eternal salvation for those who believe in Him. This story challenges believers to take on a posture of active faith, trusting in God’s timing, and recognizing that the greatest miracle is the redemption offered through Christ.
