The Gospel Of Mark (Part 29)
Date: 22 March 2026
Speaker: Justus Swart
The disciples, fresh from witnessing Jesus’ glorious transfiguration, descended the mountain only to encounter a crowd and a boy tormented by a deaf and dumb spirit that caused violent convulsions and near-death episodes. Despite prior success in driving out demons, they failed, prompting Jesus’ sharp rebuke of their unbelief. He emphasised that faith is not a force to control outcomes but the humble posture of coming to God, trusting His will—even when it means accepting “no”. Through the boy’s apparent death and dramatic restoration, the story foreshadows Jesus’ own crucifixion and resurrection, offering hope that life triumphs over the grave. Ultimately, even mustard-seed faith brings us to the One for whom all things are possible.
