The Gospel of Mark (Part 30)
Date: 12 April 2026
Speaker: Justus Swart
In Mark 9:30–42, Jesus reveals a stark contrast between His mission and the disciples’ misunderstanding: while He privately prepares them for His betrayal, death, and resurrection, showing the cross as both God’s sovereign plan and His own willing surrender, they remain preoccupied with status, arguing about who is greatest. Jesus responds by redefining greatness as humble servanthood, offering a clear warning against pride within the church that leads to division and misrepresents His heart. He then addresses John’s concern about another man ministering in His name, reminding us that God’s kingdom is far bigger than our own circles, while still calling us to exercise discernment within the wider body of Christ.
