The Gospel of Mark (Part 36)

Date: 5 July 2026

Speaker: Justus Swart

In Mark 10:35-45, Jesus confronts the disciples’ misguided understanding of leadership as James and John seek positions of honour, revealing a deeper desire for status, recognition, and authority shaped by worldly expectations of power. In response, Jesus redefines leadership and exposes the dangers of prioritizing appearance, self-driven ambition, and misused authority, and instead calls His followers to embrace a model rooted in humility, obedience to God’s will, and sacrificial service. True greatness in the Kingdom is not found in being seen, or being in control, but in serving others, just as Christ Himself came not to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.
