The Gospel of Mark (Part 41)

Date: 6 September 2026

Speaker: Justus Swart

In Mark 11:27-33, the religious leaders challenge Jesus’ authority, but their attempt to question Him ultimately exposes the hardness of their own hearts. Their “I don’t know” was not ignorance but an unwillingness to acknowledge the truth because obedience would have consequences. The passage challenges us to recognise the same temptation in our own lives, where uncertainty can become a convenient excuse to avoid what God has already made clear. While there is an honest “I don’t know” rooted in humility and a desire to know God, there is also an “I don’t know” that shields us from responsibility and obedience. Ultimately, discipleship is not about having answers to every question, but trusting the One who has the authority to lead us, even when we don’t know what comes next.
