In Mark 12:1-12, Jesus tells the parable of the tenants to expose the religious leaders’ failure to steward what God had entrusted to them. The vineyard represents Israel, the tenants its religious leadership, and the owner’s servants the prophets who were repeatedly rejected, culminating in the rejection and death of the beloved Son. The passage challenges us to recognise the difference between stewardship and ownership, reminding us that responsibility does not equal possession and that everything God gives us remains His. Ultimately, the question is not simply what we have been entrusted with, but whether we are faithfully stewarding it and bearing the fruit God desires.
